The Per Diem Registered Nurse works closely with the clinical and administrative teams in Health Services to ensure high quality, student-centered care for summer programs and as part of the year-round Per Diem RN pool for Student Health Services. Responsibilities include providing telephone and in person triage for Babson and Olin College students requesting urgent appointments; supporting state immunization compliance; administering immunizations and other injectable medications;
and assisting with prescription refills, phlebotomy, laboratory results, and general nursing procedures. Nurses also contribute to front desk coverage as needed and participate in key Health Services events such as flu shot clinics and other student-focused activities.
Health Services is part of the Student Success Portfolio in the Division of Learner Success and Campus Life, which also includes Accessibility Services, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Religious & Spiritual Life, Student Advising & Success, Wellness & Prevention Services, the Peers On Wellness (POW) peer health education program, and the Campus Assessment, Response, & Evaluation (CARE) Team.

Review required health documents and communicate any pertinent medical needs to parents and designated program staff.
Administer medications and provide nursing interventions and first aid to participants, as needed.
Assess medical concerns, provide emergency care, and coordinate referrals to appropriate medical facilities.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date medical records and logs for all treatments and medication administration.
Follow standing orders issued by the Director of Health Services and report all serious concerns or incidents promptly to the Director of Summer Programs.
Communicate with parents and the Babson Summer Programs office regarding participant health concerns, updates, or follow-up needs.
Complete mandated reports for serious incidents or illnesses in accordance with Department of Health guidelines.
Participate in camp orientation and training sessions and support general camp programming when appropriate.
Provide consistent availability throughout the summer program, either on a weekly schedule or as a substitute nurse.
Health Services:
Triage students calling and presenting to Health Services during the day without an appointment.
Assist with immunization compliance in accordance with Massachusetts State Laws and Babson requirements. This includes corresponding with students about the immunization requirements; following up on missing immunizations; entering immunization data.
Administer immunizations.
Responsible for medication reconciliation in the absence of permanent staff.
May participate in flu or other vaccine clinics.
Follow up by telephone with students who utilized off campus emergency and urgent care services.
Assist clinicians with prescription refills.
Assist students with making appointments with area specialists.
Review laboratory results and alerts providers to results needing urgent attention.
Assist clinicians with procedures such as phlebotomy, suture removal, nebulizer treatments and dressing changes.
Prepare lab specimens, conducts point of care testing and prepares samples for transport to the contracted lab as needed.
Assist with front desk coverage when the Office Manager or Administrative Assistant is out of the office.
Assume additional responsibilities as required.

WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED:
Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing Program.
A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, 5 years preferred.
Must hold a current RN license in the State of Massachusetts and be CPR certified.
Must have Hepatitis B vaccination and training in compliance with OSHA regulations; must maintain both throughout time in the position.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated passion for adolescent and college health, including understanding of student development.
Ability to multitask and remain flexible in a busy clinical setting.
Must have knowledge of state immunization laws and experience with administering vaccines, medications and medical treatments.
Must have experience with electronic medical records and scheduling-preferably Medicat EMR.
