As an SDE2 at Tesco, you are a mid‑level individual contributor whose impact reaches across your team. You provide technical leadership for medium to large features, participate in their design, and take accountability for delivery. You are expected to implement and ship end‑to‑end stories, support other engineers, and start to build and prioritize your own work by understanding team problems and proposing solutions.
This role is a stepping stone towards SDE3, with a focus on career development and technical growth.
- Develop high‑quality software solutions using Java (Spring Boot or Micronaut).
- Work with Microsoft Azure and Terraform for infrastructure automation.
- Implement and advocate CI/CD best practices for seamless software delivery.
- Maintain high‑quality documentation to support development processes and system design.
- Use data‑driven decision‑making, balancing short‑term and long‑term goals.
- Apply Tesco architectural standards and best practices, including security‑first thinking and vulnerability management.
- Ensure solutions are robust, scalable, and efficient.
- Take ownership of systems, driving reliability, maintainability, and performance.
- Mentor and support fellow engineers, fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
- Automate workflows and build tools/scripts to enhance efficiency.
- Solid experience delivering Java or other JVM languages.
- Familiarity with JavaScript or Type Script is a plus.
- Experience with cloud platforms Azure or AWS.
- Infrastructure automation experience with Terraform.
- Good understanding of SQL (Postgre
SQL) and No
SQL databases (e.g., Cosmos DB). - Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools (Splunk, xMatters, New Relic).
- Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum or Kanban).
- Good English communication skills.
- Experience in system design.
- Experience taking ownership of a project and leading a team from a technical or project perspective.
- Proactive attitude.
- Version control experience with Git Hub.
- Experience with Zendesk and JIRA.
