Technical Assistant II

Performs intermediate technical work in the areas of zoning, subdivision review, roadway design/construction contracts, public works, and computer scheduling/tracking. Distributes and coordinates timely Division-wide reviews of right-of-way permits through the Electronic Permitting (E-Permitting) System. Downloads, indexes, reviews, and coordinates timely Division-wide reviews of Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) submittals received via the FDOT Electronic Review Comments (ERC) plan distribution/review system.

Drafts responses to consultants to communicate review comments. Intakes plan review submittals, assigns numbers, and checks items in the package and routes, using a computer-based tracking system. Performs preliminary review of plans for pavement markings, signs, stop bars, crosswalks, and turn lanes. Reviews construction plans, plats, site plans, and resolutions for compliance with regulations and ordinances, for the Traffic Division's comments/approvals;

verifies petition number and owner names. Work is performed under the direction of a supervisor, and is reviewed during and upon completion through reports, conferences, and evaluations of program effectiveness.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires qualified applicants to possess one of the following:

• Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification, supplemented by either a certificate of completion for a related vocational training program OR two (2) years of college-level coursework (must specify 60-semester/90- quarter hours) in Drafting, Civil Engineering, Data Processing, Computer Science, Planning or related field; minimum of two (2) years of experience in a design/construction-related field,

OR

• Graduation from high school/equivalent; minimum of (4) years of experience in a design/construction-related field.

OR

• An unrelated Associate's/Bachelor's Degree; minimum of one (1) year of experience in a design/construction-related field,

OR

• An Associate's/Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Environmental/Planning or Transportation/Highway/Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications include:

• Experience using MS Access/database applications,
• Experience using MS Word/Excel/Outlook,
• Experience with governmental engineering office work (must specify on application),
• Experience with traffic engineering standards and procedures (must specify on application),
• Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) (must specify on application), and
• Experience with Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software or in drafting (must specify on application) .
