Overview
We are seeking a Seasonal Wetland Technician to join our Permitting, Planning and Licensing team in either of the following New York offices:
Liverpool, Ithaca, Clifton Park or West Seneca. Successful candidates will be an energetic, flexible team player with the ability to travel for short- or longer-term field assignments throughout New York and New England with the occasional opportunity to travel farther. Typical projects include a wide variety of energy-related projects including renewable energy (hydropower/wind/solar/storage), electric transmission, natural gas pipeline, transportation, infrastructure, and other development projects.
Responsibilities
* Assist lead wetland delineators with wetland delineations (using GPS equipment to collect wetland flag locations) across New York and New England.
* Construction monitoring and/or stormwater inspections for utility line or solar projects, reviewing best management practice installation and function.
* Assist with a mix of biological natural resource related field and office tasks (including but not limited to construction inspection reports, wetland delineation reports, health and safety plans, environmental permitting, proposals, budget preparation, hand harvesting of invasive aquatic species, water quality sampling, Phase 1 ESA, wildlife monitoring, etc.) and assure each assignment follows the project scope, schedule, and budget.
* Effectively manage field work, support other technical staff, interact in the field with clients, stakeholders, regulators, and contractors.
* The position will entail short-term and long-term field assignments primarily in New York State but also in New England; therefore, the candidate must be willing and physically able to travel and work outdoors in rough and remote terrain under challenging environmental and weather conditions carrying all necessary gear (backpack, soil auger, GPS unit, wetland flagging, etc.); and have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
Qualifications
* We seek appropriately qualified candidates with a minimum of 1 to 3+ years of applicable experience with a bachelor's degree in forestry, botany, biology, wildlife, fisheries, natural resources, wetland science or related field is required.
* Experience using GPS equipment.
* Ability to understand and work in line with scope, schedule, budget, and quality while meeting client needs.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to comfortably interact with clients, stakeholders, and contractors.
Experience with preparing technical reports and permit applications.
* Maintain a positive attitude and deliver exceptional client service while sometimes working under aggressive schedules and with controversial projects.
Preferred Requirements:
* Knowledge of the following:
Northeastern flora and fauna, plant species identification, wetland field delineation, natural resource inventory, construction-related erosion and sedimentation control practices, post-construction restoration monitoring, and wildlife habitat assessments.
