Overview
Western Massachusetts Hospital, operated by the Department of Public Health, seeks an experienced Registered Nurse II to provide specialty care for adult and geriatric patients in the areas of ventilator/respiratory support, end‑of‑life care, neuromuscular disorders, Alzheimer’s, and chronic care. The position is part‑time (32 hours per week) 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, every other weekend with days off as assigned. Candidates must have at least one year of RN experience and will perform mandatory overtime as required.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Provide direct hands‑on nursing care following hospital policies, procedures, and nursing standards of care.
- Assess and record patient health status on admission using the Western Massachusetts Hospital Nursing Assessment process.
- Develop and maintain an up‑to‑date written plan of care based on nursing diagnosis, care needs, and patient goals.
- Document changes in patient condition and care rendered per established guidelines.
- Participate in nursing and quality assurance activities directed by the hospital.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and the care team to support continuity of care.
- Pursue personal and professional growth by attending in‑services and staying current with nursing practice.
- Assist in performance reviews, documenting staff performance for supervisors.
- Serve as charge nurse on the unit for a single shift or regularly as assigned.
- Instruct unit personnel in nursing techniques, procedures, and equipment.
- Knowledge of nursing principles and practices.
- Understanding of nursing needs for special client groups (mentally, physically, or emotionally handicapped).
- Knowledge of emergency medical procedures such as CPR, tourniquet application, and other life‑saving interventions.
- Experience with Meditech and META, CPR and IV certification.
- Knowledge of public health philosophy, principles, and practice.
- Familiarity with standard nursing policies, procedures, techniques, safety practices, and medical terminology/abbreviations.
- Ability to build effective relationships with patients, families, providers, physicians, and staff.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook).
