Position Overview
Mechanical Engineering group is seeking an established Opto-Mechanical Designer for an on-site position in Westford, MA. The role involves autonomous mechanical design and documentation of electro-mechanical and electro-optical assemblies and support of our manufacturing facility.
Responsibilities- Work autonomously with limited oversight, collaborating with lead engineers to meet design and production goals.
- Communicate across disciplines, modeling and documenting the design's technical data package (TDP) and ensuring compliance with requirements.
- Propose, design, and develop innovative solutions for structural design, optic housing design, electronics equipment packaging, circuit card assemblies, and interconnects for sensor systems.
- Manage large assemblies using PTC Creo Parametric, enhance drafting and modeling methodologies, and support model and product development from conceptual layout to final detailed releases.
- Maintain proficiency in Creo and GD&T principles for design documentation and fabrication.
- Occasional travel to suppliers to address production issues, resolve technical challenges, or attend critical program engineering reviews.
- 10+ years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with 7+ years of mechanical design drafting and development, preferably in defense-related components or aerospace.
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical design drafting and development.
- Proficiency in PTC Creo Parametric and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for design documentation and fabrication.
- Experience with PTC Windchill PLM system.
- U.S. citizenship required. Eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance is desirable.
- Experience using Creo Parametric in designing electromechanical assemblies for optical system design (kinematic mounting, athermalization, optic potting, etc.).
- Knowledge of aerostructure, fastener design, materials, and fabrication methods.
- Experience creating high-tolerance mechanical part and assembly drawings.
- Experience supporting design and integration of mechanical parts and assemblies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Knowledge of Mechanical CAD design, electronic design, and military/aerospace industry standards.
- Salary range: $66,800–$127,200 USD.
