Sign Language Interpreter in Williamsburg, VA

Step into a rewarding role supporting K-12 students as a contract American Sign Language Interpreter. This opportunity spans the  school year (August 24, 2026 to June 9, 2027), offering a consistent weekday schedule across multiple grade levels.

You'll be paired with students in elementary or high school settings, making daily communication and learning accessible. This contract role involves a 35-hour workweek, dedicated to facilitating classroom participation, social interaction, and educational success through expert interpreting.

Role Highlights:

• Interpret for students at elementary (K and 2nd grade) and high school levels (10th and 12th grade), including those working towards both standard and modified diplomas
• Work school hours based on student needs:
  • Elementary: 8:40 AM - 3:20 PM
  • High school: 7:20 AM - 2:05 PM
• Collaborate closely with general and special education teachers, ensuring clarity of instruction and inclusion
• Support students in a variety of classroom situations, school events, and peer interactions
• Uphold confidentiality and professionalism while advocating for students' communication needs
• Maintain accurate interpreting and assignment records

Desired Experience &

Qualifications:

• Hold a VQAS Level 3 or higher, or EIPA 3.0+
• Demonstrated skill as an educational sign language interpreter (schools or similar settings)
• Experience working with children or teenagers in K-12 environments
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Flexibility in adapting to various subjects, learning styles, and classroom dynamics
• Reliability and commitment throughout the academic year
