Position Summary
We are seeking a strategic and technically adept Sr Electronic Engineer that will perform engineering work in applied research, design, development, and documentation on multiple key projects. The engineer will use research techniques to analyze and validate design or theory concepts and interact with senior level professionals both internal and external to Advanced Energy.
LocationWilmington, Massachusetts. Standard office environment.
Responsibilities- Technology solutions and design according to power conversion platform requirements.
- Work closely with Advanced Engineering on technologies and solutions that drive performance such as conversion efficiency, power density, and power level scaling.
- Actively involved in design conceptualization, mechanical packaging, drive schematic generation, PCB layout, and manage critical parts list of product technology platform.
- Establish solutions to optimize performance and cost trade‑offs.
- Create simulation models, prepare design calculations for sizing of magnetics, and correlate with actual performance.
- Conduct circuit bread boarding/fine‑tuning, power‑up, testing and verification of design parameters. Prepare thorough documentation on new technology blocks and theory of operation.
- Collaborate with design teams and ensure successful technology transfer.
- Drive design process improvement and continuous learning.
- Initiate design and development calculation tools, simulation worksheets.
- Develop strategies for evaluating new technologies to surface potential weaknesses, include test for margins, and prepare detailed design test results.
- Research published solutions, related literature and relevant technology to aid in technology development work.
- Participate in project discussions and design reviews.
- Cross‑functional work with Mechanical Engineer Tech Core, Thermal Engineer, PCAD, Safety, Design Team Electrical Engineer.
- Knowledgeable in Switch Mode Power Supply topologies and failure analysis.
- Design experience in liquid‑cooling or low‑profile conduction‑cooled designs.
- Very good communication skills.
- Team player in a multi‑cultural, multi‑disciplinary environment with a strong sense of ownership.
- 5+ years relevant work experience in Switch Mode Power Supply Design.
- Experience using simulation and calculation tools in product development such as Simplis/Simetrix, Mathcad, and knowledge of PLECS and PSIM.
- Strong Research & Development background.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics and Communications Engineering.
As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $110,000 - $150,000 per year.
