This is a rewarding role for those who value continuity of care and making a real difference.

About The Job – Your Role

The Oregon Department of Corrections (ODOC) is seeking Registered Nurses with a passion for caring for marginalized and underserved incarcerated individuals. This role emphasizes continuity of care, professional autonomy, and the ability to make a meaningful difference. The ODOC patient population has significant mental health and substance use needs, along with various socioeconomic stressors, and nursing staff are critical to delivering evidence-based care, health education, and patient advocacy in the correctional setting.

Your primary responsibility will be to provide health care services to individuals living in ODOC correctional facilities. Primary tasks include:

  • Communication:
Provide comprehensive patient education and act as a resource for non-medical staff regarding health care in the correctional setting. Advocate for patient care needs to ensure timely care within the correctional environment.
  • Documentation:
Maintain accurate, legible, and complete records of patient care. Document requests for medical attention, objective data, treatment provided, evaluation of effectiveness, and patient education.
  • Administrative:
Coordinate nursing care activities with other departments. Assume responsibility for unit operations in the absence of management staff. Monitor medical supplies to ensure adequate quantities, with secure storage and accurate accounting, including narcotics, needles, and syringes.
