Juvenile Probation Parole Specialist III - Barrow CSO - Winder, GA (COM)
Job Summary:
Under broad supervision, the role provides social services to assist in the rehabilitation of law offenders in custody or on probation. The specialist makes recommendations for actions involving the formulation of rehabilitation plans and treatments, including conditional release, education, and employment stipulations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Interview youth regularly to evaluate progress in achieving goals and maintaining the terms specified in their probation contracts and rehabilitation plans.
- Recommend remedial action or initiate court action in response to non‑compliance with probation or parole terms.
- Administer drug and alcohol tests, including random drug screens, to verify compliance with substance abuse treatment programs.
- Prepare and maintain case files for each assigned youth offender.
- Discuss with offenders how drug, alcohol abuse, and anger management problems may have contributed to their criminal behavior.
- Conduct pre‑hearing and pre‑screening investigations and testify in court regarding offenders' backgrounds, recommending sentences and sentencing conditions.
- Inform youth offenders of conditional release requirements, such as office visits, restitution payments, or educational and employment stipulations.
- Write reports or evaluations.
- Provide counseling to clients with substance abuse issues.
- Arrange medical, mental health, or substance abuse treatment services as needed or per court orders.
- Supervise individuals on community‑based sentences, including electronically monitored home detention, and conduct curfew checks or visits to home, work, or school.
- Associate’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of job‑related experience in a social services delivery setting.
- Or six (6) years of direct case management experience working with offenders and their families in a social services delivery setting.
- Or two (2) years of experience at the lower‑level Juvenile Probation/Parole Specialist 2 (SSP
131) or an equivalent position. - Or two (2) years of experience at the lower‑level Juvenile Probation/Parole Specialist 2 (PSP
241) or an equivalent position.
