WSP’s RPM team is one of the most established and exciting teams in Canada. The team consists of environmental technicians, project coordinators, project managers, technical experts, and qualified professionals. We have been providing contaminated site program management services to the worlds most technically focused companies for over 15 years, maintaining a backlog of 9 to 12 months and offering growth opportunities for high-performing team members.

We specialize in health and safety, Phase I/II environmental site assessments, risk assessment and remediation. Our projects span across Canada, and the successful candidate will be able to utilize the team strengths to manage a large amount of field work efficiently and effectively.

WSP offers a new opportunity for a Contaminated Sites Intermediate Environmental Scientist to join our Remediation Program Management team based in Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg or Regina. This role involves coordinating and conducting field work related to monitoring, investigating, remediating contaminated sites impacted by hydrocarbons, fertilizers and metals, and preparing technical reports. The candidate should be self‑motivated and demonstrate strong time‑management and communication skills.

Impact
  • Preparing and adhering to site‑specific health and safety plans to mitigate or eliminate risks.
  • Project coordination including set‑up of field work programs, preparation of field work instructions, budget and schedule management and subcontractor management.
  • Conducting occasional field work including soil, groundwater, surface water and sediment investigations, monitoring programs and overseeing site remediation.
  • Participating in a team environment, working closely with and supporting Project Managers and Field Technicians.
  • Preparing proposals, including development of work scopes, schedules, and cost estimates for senior review.
  • Assisting in data collection, compilation, interpretation and reporting for phased environmental site assessment, remediation and site monitoring.
  • Preparing technical reports for review by senior staff.
  • Mentoring junior staff in conducting environmental site assessments.
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (sciences and/or engineering).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in contaminated site assessments.
  • Sound understanding of the need for health and safety procedures in the workplace and a safety‑conscious attitude.
  • Remedial excavation experience is required.
  • Previous experience with soil and groundwater sampling.
  • Understanding of the Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba environmental regulations.
  • Professional designation is preferred.
  • Experience in the oil and gas sector will be an asset.
  • Preference will be given to those with extensive experience in soil and groundwater monitoring programs, Phase I and II environmental site assessments, site remediation, and provincial regulations.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YK: $60,100 – $79,600

MB & ON: $54,800 – $75,400

NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $54,200 – $72,000
