Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Embrace our safety culture and adhere to industry and company policies and procedures.
  • Repair and/or replace turnout components as needed, such as switch points, frogs, plates, etc.
  • Repair and/or replace track components as needed, such as rail, ties, plates, spikes, timber crossings, etc.
  • Observe conditions of track, track beds, and track right‑of‑way to detect, report, and repair problems or defects.
  • Responsibly operate company vehicles and/or equipment and ensure all daily maintenance and inspections of the units are completed.
  • Perform special duties as assigned by the Track Maintenance Foreman.
  • Perform any administrative duties related to proper documentation as per PNR Quality Management System.
  • Support the Track Maintenance Foreman to ensure that proper resources are in place for the timely completion of work, including labor, tools, equipment, and material.
  • Maintain a dedication to safety at all times by modeling, providing education, and enforcing safe work practices and company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that proper safety equipment is available and used by all field personnel.
  • Train and motivate workers.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience in the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of track construction and maintenance.
  • Ability to read and understand project specific documents, including schedules, standard railway plans, and specifications.
  • Ability to understand and efficiently carry out instructions.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others and clearly communicate instructions to crew.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work being performed.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Works outdoors at construction sites.
  • Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, lifts, bends, and moves objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to all weather conditions, including very hot and very cold weather.
  • Exposure to loud noise, live track/trains, and high voltage.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts.
