Days:
Monday – Friday (occasional weekends as needed for special events). The schedule follows the academic calendar, including school vacations, holidays, snow days, and district professional development days.
- Model the mission and character virtues of the school.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of subject areas and best practices in pedagogy.
- Guide learning toward achievement of school curriculum goals.
- Establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, and communicate them to students.
- Plan instruction based on explicit goals regarding what students should know and be able to do.
- Create or provide learning experiences that develop students' abilities and require application of thinking skills.
- Employ a variety of instructional strategies that consider individual learning styles and performance levels.
- Organize instruction around essential questions or core learning objectives; teach for understanding and mastery; provide students with practice and extension opportunities as needed.
- Assess student learning regularly using multiple forms of assessment; analyze data and provide reports of student progress.
- Use assessment data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.
- Create a classroom environment that is engaging, orderly, secure, and appealing, fostering mutual respect.
- Carry out the school's disciplinary code and procedures fairly and justly.
- Assign meaningful work that reinforces classroom instruction.
- Communicate student progress and development to parents, involving families in their child's education.
- Provide written assessments, referrals, and evaluations for students with special needs; participate in IEP meetings as required.
- Participate in professional growth opportunities to remain current with educational best practices.
- Model learning and behavior consistent with expectations for students.
- Attend staff/team/department meetings and serve on staff committees as necessary.
- Assist administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum and instructional effectiveness for all students.
- Build positive relationships with students to support academic and social development.
- Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for achieving objectives.
- Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide timely progress reports.
- Commit to ongoing professional growth and adhere to educator evaluation processes as outlined by DESE.
- Integrate technology effectively into instruction.
- Engage in extracurricular activities and school community events as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a relevant subject area;
Master's degree preferred. - Hold an appropriate Massachusetts educator license or pass the required Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) within the first year of employment.
- For teachers assigned to English Language Learners (ELLs), obtain the Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement within one year of assignment (via SEI course, SEI MTEL exam, or valid ESL license).
- Prior teaching experience at the elementary school level is preferred.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Background check and fingerprinting as required by Massachusetts state regulations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to lift, move, or assist students when necessary.
- Completion of required professional development or certifications as mandated by the District.
The work environment is typically inside a school or classroom. Noise levels may vary; occasional higher noise during student activities or group work.
