The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is dedicated to providing innovative and genuine opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities to participate fully and meaningfully in their communities.
The facility is located on a 400‑acre campus, serving a 250‑bed community of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Job Responsibilities- Provide security for residents, staff, and property at the 400‑acre campus.
- Patrol assigned campus buildings and adjacent areas on foot or in a patrol vehicle.
- Guard against trespass, theft, damage to property, or injury to individuals by screening visitors, inspecting rooms, controlling crowds, conducting surveillance, searching for missing goods and persons, investigating complaints and reports of suspicious activity, mediating disputes, and inspecting buildings, grounds, fire lanes, and emergency exits for compliance with safety standards.
- Assist local fire departments, law enforcement, and emergency medical services during emergencies.
- Assist in the investigation of traffic accidents and enforce campus traffic, parking, and safety regulations.
- Assist in evacuation drills or emergency situations of residents.
- Assist grounds crew during snow storms.
- Operate equipment such as telephone switchboard, two‑way radios, fax, and computer equipment.
- Eligible for appointment as a special police officer under Massachusetts General Laws.
- Associate’s degree or higher.
- Knowledge of security methods and procedures for buildings and property.
- Understanding of laws governing arrest, search, and seizure.
- Acceptable driving record.
- At least one year of full‑time or equivalent part‑time experience in the protection and/or security of buildings, equipment, or individuals.
- Alternatively, an Associate’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
Full‑time, 40‑hour weekly position. 3rd shift: 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM, Tuesday through Saturday. Days off:
Sunday and Monday. Flexibility and mandatory overtime may be required.
This position is classified as an "EMERGENCY" role; the employee may be required to report to work during statewide emergencies.
The Department requires employees to perform mandatory overtime and to be flexible with their work schedule.
