GENERAL DESCRIPTION:The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking a motivated and hardworking Habitat and Access Technician for a seven-month appointment based in Pavillion, Wyoming
. This hands‑on position plays an important role in conserving wildlife habitat and maintaining public access opportunities across the region.
In this role, you will assist with a variety of land management practices that support the development, enhancement, and maintenance of Wildlife Habitat Management Areas (WHMAs) and Public Access Areas (PAAs). Duties include habitat improvement projects, irrigation and fence maintenance, weed management, equipment operation, and upkeep of roads, parking areas, and access sites.

- Irrigation maintenance – pivot, flood, and gated pipe
- Fence construction and maintenance – Wildlife and stock fence
- Operation and maintenance of farm equipment and machinery
- Weed identification and treatments
- Wetland management
- WHMA and PAA maintenance of roads, parking areas, and boat ramps.
- ATV/UTV operation and maintenance
- Operation of power tools, 4x4 pickups, and trailers
Preference will be given to those with farm or ranch background or experience related to range management, fish and wildlife resource management, habitat development, or college coursework towards a degree in range, fish, or wildlife management.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE:- Knowledge and experience in farming/ranch work and irrigation
- Knowledge of wildlife management, natural resource management, range management, wetland management, and habitat management
- Skill in organizing, planning, prioritizing, and managing time
- Ability to listen, be a team player, and communicate with other employees and the public
- Ability to work alone and exercise independent judgment

PHYSICALWORKING CONDITIONS:
- Weekend work will be required
- Positions may require extended stays in campers or tents
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs
- Position will often work independently outside in all weather conditions
- FLSA:
Non‑exempt - Successful applicants for employment must pass a background check prior to appointment
- Position will be located in Pavillion/Riverton (4/1/2026 thru 10/30/2026). Position may have housing provided (cabins and/or campers).
