Learning Outside the Classroom:

Image of International IB School in Bangkok, ThailandIn addition to its rigorous academics, NIST provides students with other numerous learning opportunities.

Due to its diverse student population, NIST boasts an extensive World Languages Programme; by the time they graduate, NIST students are fully multilingual, and able to collaborate with individuals of differing cultures and backgrounds.

Students can also choose from over 300 extra-curricular activities that include options in academics, sports and the arts.

As one of the founding members of the Southeast Asia Student Activity Conference (SEASAC), the NIST Falcons compete against their peers from other top schools in Southeast Asia, as well as students around the globe. The Falcon athletes and scholars have amassed dozens of national and international championships over the past two decades.

To provide students with other unique learning opportunities, NIST partners with top organizations around the world to create enrichment programmes.

It serves as the home to The Professional Learning Hub, a training centre for international educators; the University at Buffalo (SUNY) M.Ed. programme; the JUMP! Foundation, a non-profit that seeks to promote leadership and experiential learning opportunities for youth; Top Flight Basketball Academy, founded by former NBA player Ike Nwanko; and the Chelsea FC Soccer School Bangkok, home of the famed football club in Thailand.

This learning extends outside of the campus through service learning. NIST students have conducted needs analysis research and launched community development projects in rural communities throughout Southeast Asia.

Each year they raise several million Thai baht not only for charity, but also as funding for community-run NGOs, many of them created by NIST graduates. By combining classroom learning with practical action, students become well-rounded, conscientious young adults who seek to make a positive impact in their communities.
