ALBA is the Spanish synchrotron light source, a large research infrastructure operating ten beamlines, complementary facilities, and an Electron Microscopy Center, this last in partnership with other institutions. Currently constructing multiple more beamlines, expanding the Electron Microscopy Center, and integrating advanced data analytics, it sums up a wide range of infrastructures geared toward finding solutions to societal challenges.

Located in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain), it is funded by the Spanish Government (Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación) and the Catalan Government (Generalitat de Catalunya, Departament de Recerca i Universitats). The synchrotron light produced by 3 GeV electrons is used by thousands of researchers to analyse and understand the properties and functionality of matter, spanning a wide variety of fields, such as catalytic research, health, energy production/storage, environmental research, communication technologies, or cultural heritage.

This 2‑year contract is part of the subproject granted to ALBA‑CELLS with reference PID
2024‑156765OB‑C22 entitled “Characterization of catalysts for hydrogen technologies and ALD processes using synchrotron radiation”. This subproject is part of a coordinated project lead by the UPC, and it is funded by the Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (MICIN) through the call “Proyectos de Generación de Conocimiento” within the framework of the “Programa Estatal para Impulsar la Investigación Científico‑Técnica y su Transferencia” from the “Plan Estatal de Investigación Científica, Técnica y de Innovación 2024‑2027.”

It has a duration of three years, and it started on September 1, 2025.

• Participate in and lead the activities related to the maintenance, commissioning, updating and daily operation of the ALD reactor designed and built by the ALBA team involved in the Spanish project ‑156765OB‑C22 entitled “Characterization of catalysts for hydrogen technologies and ALD processes using synchrotron radiation”.
• Participate in the ongoing research program, in collaboration with the UPC group within the frame of the aforementioned Spanish project.
• Engage in sample fabrication and offline characterisation of samples prepared using the available ALD equipment, employing various surface‑sensitive techniques at both ALBA and partner facilities.
• Contribute to the analysis, publication, and presentation of the obtained results, ensuring their thorough examination and dissemination.
• Take an active part in the development of synchrotron proposals at ALBA and/or other facilities, while also participating in the associated beamtimes.

The successful candidate must:

• Hold a degree in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Sciences or related disciplines.
