We are looking for a candidate to join IREC as Head of Communication department. IREC offers a stable and long‑term position.
The role of this position is included among other tasks:
- Develop a comprehensive communication strategy and roadmap for the IREC at national and international levels,
- Establish processes for aligning the institute strategy for bringing research results from laboratory to the market facilitating pathways to the public media looking for impact.
- Promote actions for increasing the society readiness level of the research and formation actions performed in the institute.
- Supervise all public relations matters such as coordinating, arranging events and outreach.
- Edition of institutional reports.
- Supervise the definition, implementation and monitoring of the Communication team activities (Plan and Style Manual, Corporate Image management, Web Content Management, elaboration of the Newsletter, designing corporate material, organization of events, production of audiovisual contents, e‑mailing campaign, implementation of CERCA logos among others.)
- Be the coordinator and representative of IREC in the communication organigram working groups of the department where IREC is assigned as well as with the other entities of the government of the Generalitat of Catalonia.
- Supervise the communication tasks linked to research, technological or innovative project programs.
- Coordinate “Communications Team” with the KTT unity for promoting and assuring the projects communications objectives.
- Lead the “Communications Team” and the supporting persons being responsible for the team performance and development.
- Concepts for assessing the “impact” of research.
- Explain the SRL (Societal Readiness Levels) scale and compare it with the TRL scale.
- Criteria to be met for a science outreach news item. Examples.
- Recommendations for a strategic communication plan and its roadmap.
- Organization of European research. What is the role of the EIT?
- Criteria for a news policy regarding research commitments to the outreach community.
- How should a project highlight be assessed? Criteria.
- What should be the objectives and requirements for a research institution’s newsletter? What should it look like?
- What should be the content of a research center’s website? And of a research project? Why? How should its update be ensured? What role should videos, podcasts, and public reports play in a communication policy?
The exam will include questions on the topics described. The content and complexity will be adapted to the requested profile.
Scoring Criteria for the Competitive Phase (maximum 40 points)- 1. Education (up to a maximum of 15 points):
- a) Academic degrees related to the position announced: 4 points.
- b) Continuing and/or complementary training related to the subject or field of the position announced and duly justified: 5 points.

- 2. Career and Professional Experience (up to a maximum of 20 points):
- a. Proven experience in the written preparation of sound or image for different communication task “items” (news, press releases, communications, etc.) as both a responsible party and a collaborator: 5 points.
- b. Proven experience in organizing scientific and technological events (conferences, congresses, seminars, workshops) as the communication lead: 3 points.
- c. Proven experience in managing institutional, project, or research group websites: 3 points.
