VHIR is offering a position for a Laboratory Technician to join the Clinical Research Support Unit (USIC). The role will primarily involve technical laboratory activities related to the processing, storage and shipment of human biological samples, together with administrative and logistical support as required by the needs of the service.

USIC provides support for the development of clinical research across the Vall d’Hebron Campus, including clinical trials and other research projects. The Unit provides users with medical consultation rooms, nursing support and a laboratory for the processing of biological samples.

Main responsibilities and duties:
  • Manage the processing, storage and shipment of human biological samples in accordance with established procedures, protocols and applicable regulations.
  • Register, update and maintain sample-related data in the USIC database and in sponsor registries, where applicable.
  • Follow laboratory manuals, procedures and protocol-specific requirements related to clinical research and clinical trials, ensuring compliance with GCP, IATA standards and relevant SOPs.
  • Carry out the routine maintenance, monitoring and verification of laboratory equipment, including freezers and centrifuges.
  • Support compliance with the Unit’s quality management system and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other tasks related to the area, as assigned by the manager, in accordance with established procedures.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the USIC team when required, including patient scheduling and reception, database management, sample transportation, materials management and meeting-room organisation.
Education and qualifications:

Required:
  • Higher Vocational Education qualification (FPII/CFGS).
  • Fluency in Catalan, Spanish and English, with professional proficiency in all three languages.
Desirable:
  • Knowledge of the applicable legislation and regulatory requirements governing clinical trials and clinical research.
  • A well-organised and methodical approach, with a high level of motivation and initiative.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous experience in a hospital environment, particularly in contact with healthcare professionals and research staff.
Experience and knowledge:

Required:
  • Experience in the healthcare sector.
  • Good command of MS Office and other relevant computer applications.
Desirable:
  • At least one year of previous experience working as a laboratory technician processing biological samples, or experience working in a biobank.
Labour conditions:
  • Working hours:

    Full-time (37.5 hours per week).
  • Starting date:
    October 2026.
  • Gross annual salary:
    Remuneration will be determined by experience, skills and responsibilities and aligned with the Collective Agreement pay scale.
  • Contract type:
    Technical and scientific activities contract linked to project activities.
