Make a tangible impact on global operations while mentoring and guiding a high performing team.

Join Shipco IT as a Sr. Associate – Linux Administrator

In this role, you’ll design, deploy, and optimize Linux infrastructure to ensure high availability, security, and performance across global operations. You’ll lead automation initiatives, implement best-in-class security practices, manage critical applications and databases, and mentor junior team members – ensuring a scalable, reliable, and secure environment that drives business success.

What You'll Do…
  • System Administration: Create, deploy, and troubleshoot Linux servers, apply security updates, perform backups, conduct disaster recovery, and apply patches to maintain a stable and secure environment.
  • Project Support: Assist in migrations of applications and services, maintain server inventory and documentation, and ensure seamless integration with hybrid infrastructure.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with application architects, developers, and global business stakeholders to deploy appropriate technologies and ensure integration with existing systems.
  • Knowledge Transfers & Documentation: Share best practices with teammates to foster continuous learning. Create and maintain infrastructure and network diagrams for clarity and scalability.
  • Automation & Scripting: Develop and implement automation strategies using Bash, Python, Power Shell, or cloud CLIs to streamline system administration tasks and deployments.
  • Security & Compliance: Configure and manage syslog/rsyslog for centralized log management. Harden Linux servers and ensure compliance with organizational security standards.
  • Database Management: Administer MySQL and Postgre

SQL databases, including backups, disaster recovery, and performance optimization.
  • Monitoring & Quality Assurance: Monitor system operations and performance. Troubleshoot and resolve system and application issues proactively.
  • Troubleshooting: Analyze application and system logs to identify root causes and implement permanent solutions.
  • Mentorship & Leadership: Act as a technical mentor and escalation point for junior systems administrators, guiding them in best practices and complex troubleshooting.
What You’ll Need…
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science or a related field, with equivalent experience considered.
  • RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) certification or equivalent, AWS Solutions Architect or Sys Ops certifications highly desirable.
  • 7-8 years of proven, hands‑on experience as a Linux System Administrator.
  • Expertise in Red Hat Linux and derivatives, Ubuntu, and Linux command-line administration.
  • Proven experience administering Linux servers running Apache, Nginx, Tomcat, NPM, or similar technologies.
  • Solid experience with syslog/rsyslogd configuration, management, and log interpretation.
  • Skilled in Linux server hardening, package installation/configuration via RPM, and deployment of RPM packages.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms, particularly AWS, with practical implementation experience preferred.
  • Proven experience with automation and scripting (Bash, Python, Power Shell, or cloud CLIs) to manage Linux infrastructure efficiently.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and structured problem‑solving skills, coupled with excellent communication and collaboration abilities, especially in English.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong attention to detail and organizational discipline.
  • Experience collaborating with international teams and communicating effectively across time zones.
  • Flexibility to work shifts within a 24/7 operational setup.
