El Altillo International School (ISP) is seeking a qualified and experienced History Teacher for Secondary students. Applicants must have experience in teaching and be excited by the challenge of contributing to curriculum development. The successful applicant will be an accomplished teacher with enthusiasm and a passion for teaching, inspiring students and working as part of a pedagogical team.
Responsibilities Plan, prepare and deliver lessons to up to students following the ISP curriculum.
Review lessons and resources regularly to ensure maximum engagement and clear opportunities for pupils to develop key linguistic skills and processes.
Prepare and set tests, including a baseline assessment test at the beginning of the course.
Be responsible for the learning and achievement of all pupils in the class, ensuring equality of opportunity for all students.
Be responsible and accountable for achieving the highest possible standards in work and conduct.
Treat pupils with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, and observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teacher’s professional position.
Work proactively and effectively in collaboration and partnership with learners, parents/carers, other staff and external agencies in the best interests of pupils.
Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school.
Deliver the curriculum as relevant to the age and ability group/subject/s taught.
Prepare and develop teaching materials, programmes and planning.
Be accountable for the attainment, progress and outcomes of pupils taught.
Use clear understanding of pupils’ capabilities and prior knowledge to plan teaching and differentiate appropriately.
Understand the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs, gifted and talented, EAL, disabilities, and employ distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support them.
Promote high standards of literacy, including proper use of spoken English.
For early reading, demonstrate understanding of appropriate teaching strategies such as systematic synthetic phonics.
Use observation, assessment, monitoring and recording strategies to set challenging learning objectives for pupils of all backgrounds, abilities and dispositions.
Make accurate and productive use of assessment to secure pupil progress.
Give regular oral and written feedback, encouraging pupils to respond, reflect on progress and take responsibility for their own work and study.
Use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets and plan subsequent lessons.
Participate in arrangements for examinations and assessments.
Create a safe, purposeful and stimulating environment for pupils, using praise, sanctions and rewards consistently and fairly.
Manage classes effectively with approaches appropriate to pupils’ needs, inspiring, motivating and challenging them.
Maintain good relationships with pupils, exercise appropriate authority and act decisively when necessary.
Be a positive role model and demonstrate consistent positive attitudes, values and behaviour expected of pupils.
Have high expectations of behaviour, promoting self‑control and independence of all learners.
Communicate effectively with parents/carers regarding pupil achievements and well‑being using school systems/processes.
Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school, including playground and lunch duties when necessary.
Cover for absent colleagues if required.
Team Working and Collaboration Participate in relevant meetings/professional development opportunities.
Work as a team member, sharing development of effective practice with colleagues.
Contribute to the selection and professional development of staff.
Ensure colleagues are appropriately involved and understand their roles.
Deploy support staff effectively as appropriate.
Develop effective professional relationships with others.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience Proficient in all aspects of the English language (Native speakers).
Dynamic and have an interactive approach.
Delivered lessons purely in the target language.
Multicultural experience.
Accredited qualification.
