Established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a United Nations agency dedicated to migration. It collaborates with governmental, intergovernmental, and non-governmental partners, promoting human and orderly migration for the benefit of migrants and society. The IOM addresses operational challenges in migration management, enhances understanding of migration issues, fosters socio-economic development through migration, and upholds the human dignity and well-being of migrants.
Job purpose
This role is crucial for ensuring the health and well-being of individuals within the reception center. The Medical Officer will analyze health information, prepare regular reports on beneficiaries' health status, and evaluate the effectiveness of healthcare activities provided by partners. A key function is to assess and recommend referrals for specialized or hospital care, and to supervise nursing staff to ensure adequate healthcare delivery.

The position also involves managing health-related supplies, ensuring compliance with health protection measures, and upholding medical ethics and data privacy. The role contributes to the overall project implementation by providing technical recommendations on public health and health management, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for all.
Responsibilities
The Medical Officer is responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of individuals in the reception center. This includes analyzing medical data, generating periodic health status reports, and evaluating healthcare activities. The role involves assessing and recommending referrals for specialized medical attention or hospitalization. The officer will supervise nursing staff to ensure quality care and implement isolation and sanitary control measures when necessary.

Coordination with relevant health authorities and stakeholders is essential for facilitating access to health services. The position also entails supporting the implementation of project health activities, managing medical supplies, and ensuring compliance with health protection measures and ethical standards, including data privacy. Technical recommendations on public health and health management are also part of the duties.
Education
Requires a Bachelor's or Degree in Medicine from an accredited institution and current professional registration in Spain. Additional training in public health, emergency medicine, tropical medicine, or international cooperation is advantageous.
Work experience
A minimum of four years of relevant professional experience is required. Experience working with migrants, refugees, or asylum seekers is highly valued, as is experience in international organizations, public administrations, NGOs, or healthcare institutions. Experience in health management, public health, vulnerable population care, or humanitarian emergencies is beneficial.
Skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills in multicultural settings. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital data management tools. Operational skills, ability to travel on short notice, and capacity to work under pressure. Strong professional ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles. Knowledge of migration, public health, and migrant protection challenges. Ability to analyze medical information and communicate findings effectively.
