As a Staff Software Engineer on the Dow Jones Web Platform Team
, you will report into the Sr Engineering Director and partner with senior leadership and cross‑functional peers to architect and deliver next‑gen web and AI platforms. You are responsible for driving product innovation, ensuring system scalability and performance, and optimizing development processes to deliver high‑quality, reliable solutions across the B2B and B2C portfolio.

• Lead Technical Strategy: Balance hands‑on development with high‑level architectural oversight, designing scalable systems and roadmaps that align with Dow Jones' business goals.
• Bridge Business & Tech: Act as a key liaison between Engineering, Product, Editorial, and Marketing to influence decision‑making and ensure technical execution meets organizational needs.
• Drive Operational Excellence: Proactively identify systemic issues, manage technical debt, and establish quality standards to ensure "drama‑free," high‑performance software delivery.
• Amplify Team Impact: Serve as an org‑level mentor and "go‑to" expert, scaling technical capabilities through code reviews, guidance, and high‑quality documentation.
• Navigate Complexity: Solve ambiguous, large‑scale problems by evaluating trade‑offs and delivering accurate estimates in a fast‑paced, shifting environment.

• 7+ years in software engineering, with 3–5 years in a lead engineering role
• Substantial experience in building digital subscription products, advertising and privacy technologies, and high‑traffic websites
• Strong understanding of Java script and the best practices around the web stack (Express Js, React, Redis, Next Js, Node.
  
  Js)
• Advanced CSS Knowledge:
  Grid, Flexbox, Media Queries, Container Queries, Transitions, etc.
• Experience with AI tools (Copilot, Claude Code, OpenAI, etc.) for the purpose of improving productivity and building consumer facing products.
• Knowledge of Software Engineering fundamentals including web development, service‑oriented architecture, cloud computing, test driven development and domain driven design
• BS in Computer Science or equivalent or equivalent work experience.
