We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing MEP consulting team. This role is responsible for leading the design, coordination, and delivery of complex mechanical engineering projects, with a primary focus on HVAC systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, industrial, and mixed-use developments.
The ideal candidate is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) with extensive experience in mechanical system design, project leadership, client management, and team mentorship. This individual will serve as Engineer of Record, oversee project execution from concept through construction, ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, and contribute to business development initiatives that support the firm's continued growth.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the analysis, design, and integration of complex mechanical systems, applying advanced engineering principles and industry best practices.
Interpret and apply applicable codes, standards, regulations, and client requirements throughout the design process.
Develop detailed engineering calculations, design narratives, reports, specifications, and work plans with minimal supervision.
Serve as Engineer of Record for projects developed under their direction and assume responsibility for technical accuracy and quality.
Lead HVAC system design efforts, including equipment selection, load calculations, ventilation design, energy analysis, and system optimization.
Review engineering documents, calculations, drawings, and specifications prepared by team members and provide technical guidance and quality control oversight.
Mentor and support junior and mid-level engineers, designers, and technical staff to promote professional growth and technical excellence.
Identify project risks, technical challenges, and workflow issues proactively, implementing effective solutions to maintain project schedules and deliverables.
Coordinate mechanical designs with plumbing, electrical, fire protection, structural, and architectural disciplines.
Manage project budgets, schedules, staffing resources, and deliverables with limited oversight.
Attend and lead internal, client, contractor, and stakeholder meetings, providing technical direction and decision-making support.
Communicate directly with clients, code officials, contractors, and project stakeholders to resolve design and construction-related issues.
Review submittals, RFIs, change orders, and construction documentation during project execution.
Conduct site visits, field investigations, and construction observations as required.
Build and maintain strong client relationships that promote repeat business and long-term partnerships.
Support business development activities through client presentations, proposal preparation, project interviews, and identification of new opportunities.
Provide cross-disciplinary technical support and engineering coordination across project teams.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance project delivery, technical quality, and operational efficiency.
Maintain accountability for the quality, accuracy, and completeness of all engineering deliverables.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
Minimum of 8 years of mechanical engineering design experience within an MEP consulting, A/E, or engineering services environment.

Strong understanding of applicable building codes, energy codes, mechanical codes, and industry standards.
Proven experience serving as Engineer of Record and leading multidisciplinary engineering projects.
Demonstrated success managing project teams, client relationships, and project budgets.
Experience mentoring engineers and technical staff in a collaborative environment.
Advanced proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, HVAC load calculation software, energy modeling tools, and other mechanical design applications.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, and related project management software.
Strong knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and fire protection systems and their integration with mechanical designs.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with clients, contractors, code officials, and senior leadership.
