The Field Medical Manager (FMM) – Spain & Portugal is a field-based Medical Affairs professional responsible for developing and maintaining strong scientific relationships with healthcare professionals (HCPs), key opinion leaders (KOLs), and research partners across both countries.
The FMM serves as a trusted scientific expert and the primary field medical point of contact, providing high-level scientific exchange, supporting clinical research, and leading the execution of local and regional medical initiatives in alignment with the Iberia Medical Affairs strategy.
This is a fully field-based position covering Spain and Portugal, requiring frequent travel across both territories.
JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES- Identify, engage, and build long-term scientific relationships with thought leaders, HCPs, active and potential study investigators, and professional organizations across Spain and Portugal.
- Conceive, plan, and execute local and regional medical affairs projects such as advisory boards, medical education initiatives, scientific symposia, patient advocacy collaborations, and publications.
- Support the local adaptation and implementation of European and Global Medical Affairs initiatives in Iberia.
- Facilitate scientific exchange in response to HCP requests and provide unbiased, evidence-based information about products and therapeutic areas.
- Serve as a liaison for investigator-initiated research (IIR) by supporting the review and consideration of research proposals.
- Support company-sponsored clinical studies and collaborate closely with clinical site investigators to ensure successful study conduct.
- Collect and communicate relevant medical insights, research opportunities, and field intelligence to inform Iberia and Regional Medical Affairs strategy.
- Stay up to date with scientific literature, emerging data, and competitor information within hepatology, gastroenterology, and rare liver diseases.
- Represent Medical Affairs at scientific meetings and congresses, capturing insights and strengthening the organization’s scientific presence.
- Contribute to the training of cross-functional teams, including onboarding and ongoing education for medical and commercial colleagues.
- Ensure full compliance with SOPs, regulatory requirements, and local and European codes of practice.
- Complete all assigned responsibilities and administrative tasks in a timely and compliant manner.
Experience:
- Advanced scientific or clinical degree (MD, Pharm
D, PhD or equivalent). - Minimum 5 years of experience as a Medical Science Liaison, Medical Advisor, or similar field medical role.
- Experience in rare diseases, hepatology, or gastroenterology strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success in field medical activities and stakeholder engagement across multiple regions.
- Launch experience desirable.
Competencies:
- Ability to interpret and clearly communicate complex scientific data.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Fluency in Spanish and English required;
Portuguese strongly preferred. - High level of business acumen, self-motivation, and strategic thinking.
- Excellent organizational and presentation skills.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn new tools.
- Willingness to travel extensively across Spain and Portugal (up to 80%) and possession of a valid driver’s license.
