Oceana is seeking a passionate and motivated Campaign Assistant to support Oceana’s campaign team in Europe and contribute to our mission of protecting and restoring the world’s ocean. The position can be based in Oceana’s offices in Brussels (Belgium), Madrid (Spain), or Copenhagen (Denmark).
The Campaign Assistant will provide operational, analytical, and coordination support to Oceana’s campaigns in Europe, helping to ensure effective planning, smooth information flow, and the timely implementation of campaign activities.
Reporting to Oceana’s Head of Campaigns, the role will support Campaign Directors and cross-functional teams by preparing briefings, coordinating inputs, assisting with research and communications, managing administrative tasks, and helping organise stakeholder engagement activities. Limited travel within Europe is required.
Responsibilities- Support the coordination and implementation of campaign activities, including planning, preparation of materials, and follow-up, ensuring alignment and smooth information flow across teams.
- Assist the Head of Campaigns in tracking milestones, deadlines, and key developments relevant to campaign priorities.
- Conduct desk research and contribute to the preparation of briefings, background materials, and policy-related summaries on key topics such as fisheries and marine protection.
- Support the development and coordination of communication materials in collaboration with the Communications team, and monitor relevant news, policy developments, and social media trends.
- Assisting organising and supporting events, meetings, and advocacy activities, including preparation of materials and documentation of outcomes.
- Provide administrative and organisational support, including scheduling, document management, and maintaining accurate and accessible records.
- Degree in environmental studies, political science, international relations, marine science or a related field or equivalent work experience.
- Early career experience or relevant internships in EU campaigns, advocacy, policy, research, communications, or related work experience, providing organisational and administrative support, including coordination of activities, tracking deadlines, and managing information.
- Experience in research, writing and preparation of briefing or background materials under guidance.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, supporting senior colleagues across functions.
- Oral and written proficiency in English is a must; fluency in other European languages, such as French or Spanish, is an advantage.
- Ability to work with a good level of autonomy, while knowing when to seek guidance and support.
- Proactive and eager to learn, with a positive attitude towards taking on new tasks and responsibilities.
- Willingness to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced campaign environment.
- Strong sense of responsibility and respect for internal rules, procedures, and organisational standards.
- Cultural sensitivity and experience working in international or multicultural environments.
