ABOUT CRAG:

CRAG is an independent research institution engaged in leading-edge basic and applied plant and farm animal sciences. CRAG is established as a Consortium of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), and University of Barcelona (UB). The Center is located at the UAB Campus, and currently hosts 200 members from across the world.

The Center for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) is looking for a Postgraduate to be part of the group Bacterial diseases and plant proteostasis

The candidate will be in charge of:

• Designing and performing molecular biology experiments to functionally characterize disease resistance against Ralstonia solanacearum in tomato plants.
• Conducting plant–pathogen interaction assays, phenotyping disease responses, and analyzing experimental data using appropriate statistical and bioinformatic tools.
• Contributing to laboratory organization and research progress by maintaining accurate experimental records, presenting results in group meetings, and collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary research team.

The tasks are included within the framework of the project with reference code PIDNB-I00 with title “Descifrando la interacción molecular entre bacterias patógenas y planta”.

Skills/Qualifications

Educational requirements:

• MSc degree in Plant Biotechnology, Plant Molecular Biology, or a closely related field.
• Strong academic background in plant genetics, molecular biology, and plant–microbe interactions.

Formal training in laboratory biosafety and experimental design.

Skills:

• Proficiency in molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, RT-qPCR, cloning, and basic bioinformatics analysis).
• Ability to design, execute, and troubleshoot plant-based experiments with attention to detail and reproducibility.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and within a research team.

Experience:

• Hands‑on laboratory experience in plant molecular biology during MSc thesis or research projects.
• Experience with plant transformation, in vitro culture, or plant phenotyping under controlled conditions.
• Previous exposure to plant–pathogen interaction studies or gene expression analysis is considered an asset.
