As part of the Construction team, you will be responsible for underwriting profitable new and renewal business in accordance with underwriting guidelines and your delegated authority. You will manage a portfolio of key clients and accounts, negotiate terms and conditions, and contribute to achieving regional targets for the Construction Line of Business.
You will work closely with brokers and clients, in coordination with the distribution and client relationship teams, to strengthen partnerships and support business development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Strategy and Planning- Support the development and execution of the annual business plan within defined risk tolerances.
- Actively participate in team and cross-functional meetings to share strategy, insights, and best practices.
- Propose innovative ideas to drive business growth and improve portfolio quality.
- Monitor the performance of the construction portfolio, identifying trends, loss drivers, and areas for improvement.
- Contribute to reinsurance placement and treaty discussions when required.
- Continually develop expertise and technical knowledge through appropriate development initiatives.
- Underwrite insurance risks in line with the business plan and within personal underwriting authority to achieve business objectives. This includes:
- o Negotiating rates, terms, and conditions for both new and renewal business.
- o Ensuring compliance with the production and issuance of documentation in accordance with contract certainty requirements.
- Assess energy and construction risks by reviewing technical documentation such as project specifications, execution timelines, contractor profiles, and engineering details.
- Collaborate closely with Risk Engineers to ensure robust technical evaluation and deliver added underwriting value.
- Determine appropriate terms, conditions, and pricing in line with underwriting guidelines and appetite.
- Establish and strengthen relationships with brokers, industry bodies, business partners, reinsurers, and colleagues to maximise influence and achieve business objectives.
- Demonstrate understanding and awareness of market dynamics and market cycles to drive and enhance business performance.
- Contribute to and influence the review and analysis of the portfolio to identify progress towards business objectives.
- Ensure entries are properly recorded onto relevant systems in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy of data related to both underwriting and aggregate exposures.
- Collaborate proactively with other lines of business to identify cross-selling opportunities and deliver integrated insurance solutions that meet client needs.
- Share market insights and underwriting expertise to support multi-line account strategies and strengthen client relationships.
- Participate in joint meetings and account reviews to ensure alignment across underwriting teams and maximize commercial impact.
- Compliance with all applicable internal and external laws, regulations, policies, procedures and guidance
- Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and best practice methodology in order to minimise risk
- Apply any reinsurance requirements in accordance with stated risk tolerances and to deliver against business plan
- Demonstrate behaviors aligned with Liberty’s Conduct Risk Policy, including compliance with Solvency II, fair treatment of customers, financial crime prevention, data protection, conflict of interest management, and whistleblowing.
