We are QST Solutions , formerly Wabash Technologies de México , a manufacturing company based in Mexicali specializing in automotive electronic components and sensing technologies. Our operations focus on the manufacturing of speed, position, and magnetic sensor solutions used in the automotive industry worldwide.
What are we looking for?
The Mechanical Design Engineer collaborates with a local team or a global engineering team on product design that satisfies customer specifications. This process includes design, product validation, completing documentation, and executing launch items for production. Complete all related drawings, documentation, and release in internal systems.
Activities of the position
- Work with customers as the main responsible and contact point of communication to develop and design customized products for specific needs, with a PLM-ERP focus to reduce product cost and optimize the manufacturing process (DFM).
- Work with suppliers to deal with proposed changes in materials to improve the supply chain and adapt to today’s global challenges.
- Lead multidisciplinary team with onsite and offsite team members from sourcing, production, quality, and manufacturing teams to create prototypes of new products and set up new baseline manufacturing processes.
- Manage product validations (PV) for engineering changes and cost reduction projects for completion in a timely and effective manner.
- Provide expert product support to internal and external (supplier or customer) departments, such as sourcing, supplier and customer quality, and process manufacturing for complex problems that require strong technical knowledge of products.
- Work with the NPI Team for the recommended process on new product designs to create the most effective design for manufacturability according to the site’s available resources.
- Communicate effectively with customers to provide technical support during the resolution of analysis of field and warranty failure of products, during the design of customer-owned products, and to communicate the progress of product validation of projects of interest.
- Supervise and lead Test Engineer to achieve set goals, guide and facilitate the necessary tools to fulfill job responsibilities, which include equipment maintenance, performing product validation tests as specified and agreed with the customer, and performing teardown analysis of parts after testing.
- Managed products include position sensors of thick film technology, speed sensors of VR and Surface mount technology through Hall effect, solenoids used in heavy vehicle injectors or pumps, and molded components.
- Evaluate customer engineering requirements for new business opportunities to assess the feasibility of manufacturing at the Mexicali site.
- Perform risk assessment for proposed design changes for cost reduction projects suggested by the sourcing team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 3–5+ years of experience in mechanical design, product development, or manufacturing engineering.
- Experience designing and developing customized products based on customer requirements.
- Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, Creo, CATIA, NX, or AutoCAD) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- Knowledge of ERP systems and Engineering Change Management (ECN/ECO) processes.
- Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and cost reduction methodologies.
- Experience leading engineering projects from concept through validation and production.
- Knowledge of product validation, testing, and failure analysis techniques.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Sourcing, Supply Chain, and Production.
- Ability to communicate technical information effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Experience working directly with customers to define product requirements and provide technical support.
- Knowledge of risk assessment tools (FMEA, Design Reviews, Root Cause Analysis, etc.).
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
- Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) activities and manufacturing process development.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as injection molding, machining, sheet metal, or electronics assembly is preferred.
- English proficiency (written and verbal) required for customer and supplier communication.
- Experience in the automotive, industrial, heavy vehicle, or sensor manufacturing industry is considered an advantage.
