We are QST Solutions, formerly Wabash Technologies de México, a manufacturing company based in Mexicali specializing in automotive electronic components and sensing technologies. Our operations focus on the manufacturing of speed, position, and magnetic sensor solutions used in the automotive industry worldwide.

What are we looking for?

The Software Engineer is responsible for the electronic technical aspects of equipment controlled by Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and high-level software systems. This role is responsible for the design, development, integration, and automation of manufacturing processes through both hardware and software solutions, ensuring reliable system performance, operational efficiency, and compliance with company and customer requirements.

Activities

- Analyze and troubleshoot issues related to electrical test systems and automated equipment, including direct interaction with PLC-controlled systems and LabVIEW-based applications.
- Continuously improve manufacturing processes by optimizing system performance and reducing production cycle times.
- Reduce false failures and improve the accuracy and reliability of electrical test equipment and machine vision systems.
- Design, develop, and automate manufacturing processes by implementing hardware and software solutions.
- Obtain quotations and procure critical replacement parts for electrical test and automated equipment.
- Validate externally manufactured electrical test systems and automated equipment in collaboration with the Manufacturing Engineering team to ensure compliance with design and operational requirements.
- Analyze recurring equipment and process issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain and improve the reliability, availability, and performance of production equipment through preventive maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Perform basic operating system administration, including system configuration, software installation, and backup creation and recovery.
- Develop innovative monitoring systems and real-time production dashboards to track the performance of bottleneck equipment and production lines hourly, supporting data-driven decision-making and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial automation, manufacturing software development, or controls engineering.
- Experience supporting manufacturing equipment, automated production lines, and electrical test systems.
- Proficiency in PLC programming and troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, or equivalent).
- Experience developing applications using LabVIEW or similar industrial software platforms.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, Device Net, or OPC UA.

- Experience with machine vision systems, industrial sensors, and data acquisition systems.
- Understanding of electrical control systems, industrial networking, and automation hardware.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and communication issues in manufacturing equipment.
- Experience creating technical documentation, software backups, and equipment validation records.
- Familiarity with root cause analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Working knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices for automated equipment.

Preferred

- Experience in electronics manufacturing services (EMS), cable assembly, PCB assembly, or electromechanical manufacturing.

- Experience with SCADA, HMI, MES, or Industrial IoT (IIoT) platforms.
- Programming experience in C#, , Python, SQL, or other industrial software development languages.

- Experience with robotics, collaborative robots (cobots), or automated material handling systems.
- Knowledge of SQL databases and manufacturing data collection systems.
- Experience designing and implementing real-time production monitoring dashboards and OEE reporting systems.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.

- Experience with vision systems such as Cognex, Keyence, or Omron.
- Knowledge of electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.
- Understanding of cybersecurity best practices for industrial control systems.

- Experience with ERP and Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
- Six Sigma Green Belt, Certified Automation Professional (CAP), or similar industry certification.
