The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) is seeking a PhD student to work in Dr. Carla Casadevall’s Research Group. Machine Learning and High‑Throughput Screening–Accelerated Discovery of Photocatalytic Polymeric Vesicles for Artificial Photosynthesis

This multidisciplinary PhD project lies at the interface of molecular catalysis, polymer chemistry, nanoscience, photochemistry and artificial photosynthesis. The project aims to develop and optimise bio‑inspired catalytic polymeric vesicles for solar fuel production and sustainable chemical synthesis, with particular emphasis on light‑driven CO₂ conversion.

• ICIQ offers a yearly personalised training programme for PhD students, SHARP, which takes place during the course of 2 weeks, with training focused on the student’s given PhD year.

• Master’s or an equivalent degree in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering or related disciplines, to be completed by the time of enrolment in the PhD programme.

• Full Curriculum Vitae in PDF format.
• Personal statement (maximum two DIN A4 pages, PDF). This statement must describe the applicant’s academic background, research experience and career goals, and explain how these align with ICIQ, the PhD training and the research group.
• Official transcripts of BSc and MSc studies in PDF format, including certified copies of the academic record. If the MSc is not yet completed, details on subjects currently enrolled (subject name and credit number) must be provided.
• Contact details for letters of recommendation from two University professors or other relevant individuals.
• Evidence of English proficiency (B2 certificate, First Certificate, IELTS 6 or equivalent). This certificate is not mandatory but desirable; alternatively, late‑stage candidates will be interviewed to assess their English level. Applicants from Anglo sphere countries are exempt from this requirement.
