English Teacher Training Courses in Toronto:
Full-time TESL Diploma Program - 4 weeks:
This is a very intense program and we recommend that students who enroll in this program do not have any other work or personal commitments. There is quite a lot of outside work that needs to be completed in order to be successful in the program. The course is designed with a balance between practical and theoretical learning. Students will receive a great amount of teaching practice during the program and will be able to observe our ESL classes during the day.
Classes take place from Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 3:00pm for 4 weeks. The practicum (teaching practice) is completed outside of the course time. 5 practicum classes must be taught.

The part-time program follows the same syllabus as the 4 week schedule. You will learn all the skills necessary for preparing and conducting an English class at any level and under a variety of conditions, quickly and effectively. The 10 week part-time program is a good option for those who do have work or personal commitments. Although it is part time, there is still homework to be completed outside of the 10 weeks.
Classes are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 9:30pm for 10 weeks. 75% of the observation tasks are completed within the in class sessions and 25% is completed outside of class either during the day or through video. The practicum (teaching practice) must be completed outside of the course time. Practicum classes will be Monday to Thursday evenings plus possibly some Saturdays.
Cambridge CELTA Course - 11 weeks including practicum:
The CELTA program is an excellent choice for those who are looking to teach in Europe or the Middle East, although this certification can be used worldwide. Our CELTA program meets the TESL Canada and USA requirements, allowing you to teach English at home. During the program, teacher-trainees are observed by their CELTA tutors, who grade their Teaching Practice lessons. Assessors from Cambridge inspect the course each time in order to assure that quality is maintained in every CELTA program that is taught.
In Toronto, our CELTA program is offered on a part-time basis for those who are working. Although this course is offered on a part-time basis, students of the CELTA program must be prepared for a semi-intensive course.
CELTA Course Content:
- Unit 1 Learners and teachers, and the teaching and learning context
- Unit 2 Language analysis and awareness
- Unit 3 Language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing
- Unit 4 Planning and resources for different teaching contexts

The course is designed to equip new teachers with the skills necessary to survive in the classroom and is ideal for those who don’t need to/are unable to commit to a full CELTA, TESL or TESOL course (or would like to see what it’s like first). Unlike most introductory courses, the TEFL Certificate includes observed teaching practice and is delivered over five days totalling 30 actual classroom hours. The TEFL certificate course will show you whether teaching English is right for you before signing up for a full program.
