Relations between Afghanistan and Austria are diverse whether it is in active cooperation on trade and investment, common perspectives on major global issues or exchanges in research, education and culture. This collaboration makes Afghans and Austrians reliable partners and serves as sound basis for active and engaged bilateral relations.

The Embassy's mission in Vienna is to serve and protect the interests of Afghan citizens in Austria, to promote the mutual bilateral interests with the Republic of Austria, to answer requests from citizens, companies and government bodies of eight other European countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia), and to engage with the Vienna-based United Nations organizations (UNODC, UNIDO, IAEA, CTBTO) and - as an Asian Partner - with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

NOTE:

  • Applications will be processed in the order they are received by the Embassy. Applications that are incomplete and/or are missing necessary documentation will not be processed, in which case the processing fee will not be refunded.
  • All payments must be made by bank transfer. The consular section will not accept payments in cash or cheque.
  • Applicants are requested to avoid making any travel arrangements before obtaining their visas. The Embassy will not accept any responsibility for any delay in obtaining your visas or changes in your travel plans.
  • All passport photos must have a white background or will not be accepted as part of the application.

The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Afghanistan in Austria issues passports only to Afghans residing in, and applying from, Austria and to our non-resident countries Liechtenstein and Slovenia. Applications that are incomplete and/or are missing necessary documentation will not be processed and the fee is not refundable.

All New passports are issued for minimum 1 year to a maximum of 5 years validity. Therefore the fees will be 1year=20EUR and every extension year is 16 EUR in addition, to a maximum of 5 years is 84 EUR per passport. All fees must be paid by bank transfer into the consulate's account.

For lost or stolen passports: Please get a Police statement confirming the loss of the passport. Bring this to the consular section, plus a copy of the lost passport, in addition to the normal requirements for applying for a new passport. To apply for a child's passport: The parents must write a signed letter to the consulate confirming the parenthood of the child, in addition to passport photos and parents marriage certificate. The form will be provided in the consular section.

The visa office in Embassy of Afghanistan in Vienna  reviews applications made by citizens of, and persons lawfully admitted to,  Austria (Including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia) for:

  • This Embassy may accept visa applications from tourists, journalists and government officials holding diplomatic or service passports, and issues visas valid for 30 days, within a period of 90 days.
  • Please submit completed and signed visa from two photos, and - for journalists - an accompanying letter signed by the chief editor or publisher, as well as the copy of the press card.
  • Holders of ordinary passports must present the passport and other original documents in person at the Embassy, and be available for a short interview. (For holders of service and diplomatic passports, see below)Visa fees are to be paid, into the Embassy`s bank account - payment slip obtainable from the Embassy.
  • Visa applications usually take ten working days. Please take this into account when planning your trip to Afghanistan.
