The Afghan Embassy in Washington provides all standard consular services including:

  • Visas
  • Passport
  • Birth Certificates
  • Marriage Certificate
  • Inheritance
  • Power of Attorney
  • Entry Permit, etc.

Due to the implementation of a new visa issuing system, one should now allow at least three (3) business days for the visa to be issued. Journalist visas will take about two weeks to process and issue.

Effective January 1, 2013, holders of US Ordinary Passports applying for a visa to Afghanistan will only be eligible for a single-entry 3 month visa for the standard fee of $160.00.

NOTE: If one is sending their application requirements by mail or courier service, please include a prepaid, self-addressed return envelope. One is suggested to use USPS (United States Postal Service) Express Mail (FEDEX) to ensure the safety of the passport and highly prefer that one does NOT use DHL as their logistical procedures do not compliment the processes.

Requirement for a new passport:

  • One passport application form.
  • Three passport-sized photos (with name written at the back and attached with cellophane tape).
  • If the applicant is a US alien resident, one must provide a copy of the Green Card (front and back), the Social Security card, or evidence to prove his/her Afghan citizenship, along with one type of photo identification.
  • Please notarize the passport application. If one is applying in person, notarization may not be required.
  • If one sends their application by mail, notarization is required.

Requirements for an Entry Permit:

  • One Entry Permit form.
  • If the applicant is a US alien resident, one must provide a copy of the Green Card (front and back), the Social Security card, or evidence to prove his/her Afghan citizenship, along with one type of photo identification.
  • Please notarize the Entry Permit application. If one is applying in person, notarization may not be required.
  • Passport copies of both parents are required for minors

Afghans born in Afghanistan, holding passports other than an Afghan passport, need not apply for a visa. An entry permit may be issued from the consulate, if requested.

NOTE: Fees must be paid in US dollars with either a money order or cashiers check made payable to the Embassy of Afghanistan.
