The role of the Consular Section of this Embassy is to assist those Argentine Citizens that require consular services or help during their stay in New Zealand. The Consular Section also provides Immigration and Visa advice for those New Zealanders and Citizens of other countries currently residing in New Zealand who are travelling to the Republic of Argentina.

The Consular Section can assist with the following:

  • Issue, renew or replace passports for Argentine citizens.
  • Ensure that relatives are informed regarding accidents, deaths, or natural disasters and provide assistance.
  • Give assistance to Argentine citizens in prison and help them communicate with their relatives.
  • Contact the local authorities in the search for missing persons.
  • Issue travel authorizations to minors with the consent of their parents or guardians.
  • Offer assistance to minors or disabled citizens, especially in regards to custody or legal guardianship matters.
  • Provide those who were born abroad with Argentine parents with the option to obtain Argentine citizenship.

Australian and North American citizens holding Ordinary Passports, who are going to Argentina for tourism or business purposes, must pay a “Reciprocity Fee”. Australian, Canadian or American citizens arriving into Argentina as passengers of a cruise ship, will remain exempted from the reciprocity fee until the last day of June of 2013. Passengers arriving in cruise ships on the 1st of July 2013 and afterwards will have to pay the reciprocity fee online before their arrival into the argentine port.

The Working Holiday Scheme between Argentina and New Zealand provides the opportunity for young Argentine and New Zealand citizens to experience each other’s country by working at short-term/temporary jobs while they holiday and/or travel around the country. Once the Working Holiday Visa has been granted, holders have 12 months to travel to Argentina and can stay in the country for up to 12 months from the date of arrival.

The Embassy of Argentina in Wellington only accepts the following forms of payment:

  • EFTPOS – paid in person at this Embassy.
  • Bank Transfer. Please note it is necessary for the applicants to add their surname or passport number as reference for the bank transfer in order for us to identify who it is that has paid their fee.

NOTE:

  • The Embassy will only accept the exact amount as payment for the corresponding transaction therefore it is important for the applicant to check with the Consulate as to the current exchange rate before paying.
  • The Embassy does not accept cheques or cash.

The Argentinian Embassy observes both New Zealand and Argentine public holidays, so the Embassy is closed during that time.
