Visa requirements
The period of its validity is established for the single entry-exit visa from three days to three months, and for multiple entry-exit visas up to one year. If the visa is not used within this period it becomes invalid.

The following documents must be submitted to obtain a visa from the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan:

• one copy of the completed visa application form
• original passport and a copy;
• one passport-size photograph attached to the application form;
• receipt for the payment of state duty;
• a letter of invitation from the receiving side.

NOTE: If there is less than 3 months for expiry of foreigner's passport and stateless person's identification document visa is not granted. Processing time - from 7 to 10 days.

In accordance with the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on "Exit from the Country, entry into the Country and about passports" an electronic visa for tourists wishing to visit Azerbaijan is launched as from April 2013. According to this Law, tourist visa can be obtained by applying to licensed travel agencies or their foreign partners though electronic form. Official fee for tourist visa is $20. The term of electronic visa is not extended and its status is not changed. Electronic visa is not attached to the passport and at the border control is to be presented by tourist passing through the checkpoint together with the passport. Persons possessing diplomatic or service passports and wishing to visit Azerbaijan as tourists can also use tourist visa.

Citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan residing, studying and working under contract outside of the Republic of Azerbaijan can appeal to the embassies and consulates of the Republic of Azerbaijan in foreign countries to acquire passports. The list of the required documents to be submitted for acquisition a passport can be obtained from the web-sites of those embassies and consulates.

Citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan abroad and foreign citizens have the right to address the head archive department of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan, through diplomatic representation (consular sections) of the Republic of Azerbaijan abroad, and request certain documents. The following procedure applies:

• The applicant applies to the consul of the Republic of Azerbaijan and completes two application forms for each document being requested, and also pays the appropriate consular fee.
• The request is forwarded, through the consular department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, to the head archive department of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan. After a search has been completed, the head archive department sends the requested document to the consular department of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan for forwarding to the consular section where the application was submitted.

Registration of State Civil Acts of citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan living abroad is carried out by the consular sections of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the host states. The consular sections of the Republic of Azerbaijan carry out the following acts:

• marriage,
• divorce,
• adoption,
• parenthood establishment,
• name change,
• death
