If Belgian citizens lose or have their passport stolen abroad, they need to:

  • Call Doc-Stop to cancel their passport and protect themselves against any fraudulent use of their identity: 00800 2123 2123.
  • Notify the local police about the loss/theft immediately. Ask for a statement confirming the loss/theft.
  • If they need a passport to return to Belgium, contact the Belgian embassy or consulate in the country they are visiting.
  • If they have been unable to notify the local police about the loss/theft while they were abroad, do so with their police station as soon as they return to Belgium.

Citizens of Romania do not require a visa to visit Belgium. Nationals of most third countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA) are under an obligation to hold a visa for a proposed stay of a maximum duration of 3 months on the territory of the Schengen States.

As a general rule, a decision will be taken by the consulate or the Aliens Office within 15 days from the date appearing on the stamp affixed to applicant's travel document and indicating that his/her application is admissible. However, this deadline may be extended up to 30 days and even, exceptionally, 60 days, if a more detailed examination of applicant's application and/or additional documents are required.

The Embassy is closed on public holidays.
