As from October 28th 2011, Belgian passports delivered by the Belgian Embassy in Singapore will meet new European security standards. On the one hand, they will integrate the digital fingerprints of their holder, on the other hand the passport photographs used must meet stricter quality standards than before. For these reasons, it will be necessary for applicant to present himself/herself in person at the Embassy for the introduction of their passport application.

When applying, applicants will have to provide 4 types of information, which will be integrated into the passport:

  • Applicant's identity and nationality
  • The prints of 2 of applicant's fingers, priority being given to the forefingers (as of age 12)
  • A photograph, that will be taken on site (as of age 6)
  • Applicant's signature

In case of emergency (less than six months validity and/or lost or stolen passports with immediate travel required) a provisional passport can be issued, for a maximum validity of one year. Please note that not all countries recognize the Belgian emergency passport. Some countries, including Japan and the United States, require the holder of a Belgian emergency passport to obtain a visa even if Belgian citizens are not normally subjected to the visa requirements for these countries.

Singapore and most other Asian countries require a 6 months validity of the passport to enter the country. In other words, visitors will not be allowed to board the plane or later enter the country if their passport is not valid for at least 6 months after the date of their arrival. It is therefore important that visitors renew their passports in time in order to avoid any problems upon arrival or departure from Singapore. Belgian passports reaching the date of expiry cannot be extended and must be renewed. No matter what age, all Belgians must each have their own travel document.

NOTE: Payment in SGD & Cash Only – to be paid at the time of application and non refundable. Personal cheques, cashier's order, nets and credit cards are not accepted.
