Honorary consulates have fewer competences than embassies and consulates (general). Honorary consuls do not always have the Belgian nationality or speak the official languages of Belgium. You should therefore always contact the Embassy of Belgium in Seoul first.

The Embassy provides these consular services:

  • Registers Belgian citizens abroad;
  • Allows Belgian citizens living abroad to participate in national electoral events;
  • Issues passports and identity cards;
  • Deals with nationality matters;
  • Legalizes documents;
  • Issues criminal records;
  • Registry;
  • Deals with pension matters;
  • Deals with social security matters;
  • Issues visas;
  • Assists Belgian citizens in distress.

Since the entry into force of the consular code on 15/06/2014, administrative assistance is only provided to Belgians who are registered in the consular population register. Administrative assistance to Belgians who are not registered in these registers is limited to the issue of provisional travel documents if the issuing conditions are fulfilled.

If Belgian citizens lose or have their passport stolen abroad, they need to:

  • Call Doc-Stop to cancel their passport and protect themselves against any fraudulent use of their identity: 00800 2123 2123.
  • Notify the local police about the loss/theft immediately. Ask for a statement confirming the loss/theft.
  • If they need a passport to return to Belgium, contact the Belgian embassy or consulate in the country they are visiting.
  • If they have been unable to notify the local police about the loss/theft while they were abroad, do so with their police station as soon as they return to Belgium.

All consular fees must be paid in cash at the Embassy.

South Korean citizens are exempt from visa requirement to visit Belgium for stays of up to 90 days.
