The Brazilian Embassy assists Brazilian citizens providing standard services within the limits of their jurisdiction. They also promote cultural exchange, trade and scientific developments between Brazil and Estonia.

The Brazilian Embassy's Consular Section serves Brazilian citizens and foreigners residing permanently in Brazil with matters involving Brazilian authorities, such as passports, notary services and certain specific legal transactions, family law, citizenship and military service. The Consular Section assists Brazilian citizens in distress, gives information on the services provided by Brazilian authorities and the legal protection available to private citizens, and advises on general procedures related to legal or administrative matters in Brazil and Estonia.

Foreign citizens travelling to Brazil as tourists or as participants in conferences, seminars, artistic or sports events must have a ‘Tourist Visa'. Extensions (once in Brazil only): up to a further 90 days, making up a maximum of six months in any twelve-month period. At least two weeks before expiration of the first granted period, tourists may apply for a single extension of an additional 90 days, granted at the discretion of the Brazilian Immigration Authority.

Emergency Technical Assistance Visa is issued, under exceptional circumstances, to foreign citizens travelling to Brazil to provide emergency technical assistance in cases where an unexpected situation has arisen, which puts human lives or the environment at immediate risk or which interrupts production.

Visas can be applied in person, by mail or through travel agencies depending on the type of the visa. The kind of visa to be applied for depends on the purpose of the applicant's trip to Brazil. Permanent visas are for immigration purposes, while temporary visas are for non-Brazilian citizens envisaging shorter stays in Brazil. Temporary visas have validity in time depending on the category of the visa and on Governmental agreements, if any, between Brazil and the country of the applicant's nationality.
