Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Netherlands provides consular assistance and consular services to Bulgarian citizens and legal entities abroad, as well as to citizens of the EU Member States that have no diplomatic missions in the host country, in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Bulgaria, the international treaties to which Bulgaria is a party, and the laws of the host country.

The Embassy provides these consular services:

• Provides Bulgarian citizens with the latest information for their travel;
• Provides Bulgarian citizens with basic information about their rights and conditions of residence, work, education, social and medical care in the Kingdom of Netherlands;
• Issues visas;
• Issues new identity documents, namely identity cards, passports, driving licenses and temporary passports in case Bulgarian citizens do not have valid travel documents due to damage, theft or loss of their regular international passports;
• Issues temporary travel documents for EU citizens;
• Issues temporary passport of a foreigner for return to the Republic of Bulgaria to foreign citizens who have the humanitarian status of residence in Bulgaria and who have, for some reason, lost their foreign travel document;
• Verifies and validates signatures, content of a document or a copy of a document;
• Prepares a notarial will;
• Serves as a civil status officer and issues civil status documents such as birth, marriage and death certificates;
• Forwards civil status documents drawn up by local authorities to the municipality of citizen's permanent residence in Bulgaria;
• Accepts documents related to Bulgarian citizenship issues and forwards them to the Ministry of Justice, according to competence;
• Assists Bulgarian citizens in case of emergencies - victim of crime, serious illness, death, arrest, kidnap, natural disasters, terrorist acts - informs relatives.

Holders of valid Schengen visas have the right to enter and reside in the Republic of Bulgaria for a period of no more than three months in any six-month period from the date of the first entry, without needing to have a Bulgarian short-stay visa. Citizens of Netherlands do no need a visa to enter Bulgaria. Citizens of other countries may need a visa to enter Bulgaria, depending on their citizenship. Visa applications forms are submitted not earlier than 3 months before the date of the intended travel

The visa charge shall be paid at the time of submitting the visa application and is not refundable regardless of the final decision on the visa application. A charge of 60 EUR is collected generally regardless of the visa type and of where the application is submitted.
