A Canadian passport is a valuable document that should be kept in a safe place at all times. Once a passport has been reported lost or stolen, it is no longer valid and cannot be used for travel. This is to ensure that it is not used for fraudulent purposes. Passport Canada, the Government of Canada or any representative of the Government of Canada cannot be held responsible for any difficulties you may encounter at border crossings if you attempt to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen. Before the passport can be replaced, Canadian authorities will conduct an investigation into the circumstances of the loss or theft. This may lead to delays in processing the replacement passport.
Canadians wishing to apply for a passport must be aware that passport applications should be submitted with proof of citizenship (such as a Canadian birth certificate or citizenship certificate). If an application is submitted without proof of citizenship, there is no guarantee that it will be processed. Please note that the passport application fee will not be refunded.
If you find a passport, including your own passport that you previously reported as lost or stolen, it must be returned to Passport Canada with a letter that describes how, when and where you found it. Once a passport has been reported lost or stolen, it is no longer valid and cannot be used for travel.
While Austrian citizens may not need a visa to visit or transit Canada, they still need to:
- Show an immigration officer that they satisfy all other requirements to enter Canada. For instance, they may need a medical exam before arriving. If they do not meet all the requirements, they may not be allowed to enter.
- Carry proper travel documents and identification for themselves and any children travelling with them.
Visitors to the Embassy are asked not to bring parcels, backpacks or luggage with them. You will be requested to leave such items outside of the offices at your own risk.
