Canada and Germany enjoy close and friendly relations, reflected in their active cooperation on the international stage as well as their healthy economic and investment relations. Moreover, both countries benefit from their strong cultural and academic connections and people-to-people contacts.

Canada has consulates in Munich and Düsseldorf, which focus on the promotion of trade and investment relations. 

The friendships and family ties that exist between Canadians and Germans from all walks of life are a major aspect of bilateral relations. According to the Canadian Tourism Commission, 277,000 Germans visited Canada in 2012, ranking fourth after the US, the UK and France, and contributing around 420 million dollars to the Canadian economy.

NOTE: April 30, 2012 — Effective April 30, 2012, the Visa and Immigration Section at the Canadian Embassy in Germany (Berlin) is closed to the public. The Visa Section of the Embassy of Canada to Austria is responsible for processing visa applications for citizens and residents of Germany. German citizens do not require a visa to enter Canada as visitors. If you are a citizen of another country, check the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website to see if you require a visa to enter Canada.

Passport applications from Canadians in Germany are usually processed in Berlin. Depending on your situation, you will need to submit a general passport application or a simplified renewal application.

Passport applications can be submitted up to one year prior to the expiry of your passport. If you have reasons for applying earlier than one year before the expiry date of your current passport, please include a written note (e.g. longer validity for new residence permit needed, no more blank pages left).

NOTE: Please ensure that you pay the current and correct fee. If a fee is not paid or is paid into the wrong account, or if an incorrect amount is paid, the processing of your application will be delayed.

When visiting Embassy:

For security reasons, visitors cannot bring wireless devices including cellular phones, computers, cameras, PDA (personal data assistant) into the Embassy. If you have no other alternative, those instruments may be left, once turned off, with the guards at the entrance. Neither the Embassy nor the security company will take any responsibility for the loss of any personal effects left at the entrance.
