Canada and Spain enjoy a close relationship of active cooperation. Both countries are committed to defending democratic values and global security in a framework of international cooperation. The bilateral relations between the two countries are increasingly dynamic, notably in the areas of education and business.

The Embassy of Canada in Madrid offers a number of services to both Canadians and other citizens. In addition, the embassy covers the country Andorra.

Canadian Embassy provides these consular services:

  • Assists Canadian citizens in cases of emergency;
  • Registers Canadian citizens abroad;
  • Issues and renews passports;
  • Registers births of children abroad;
  • Allows Canadian citizens abroad to participate in electoral events;
  • Deals with adoption and citizenship matters.

If Canadian passport or travel document is lost or stolen, Canadian government offices abroad can issue an emergency travel document or a temporary passport if in urgent, proven need and stranded in a foreign country.

Starting March 15, 2016, Spanish citizens need an eTA to visit or transit Canada by air. If they travel by land or sea, they will not need an eTA when they enter Canada. However, they must travel with proper identification - a valid passport.

Applying for an eTA is a simple online process that takes just a few minutes. To apply the applicant must have a valid passport, credit card, and email address.

For security reasons, visitors cannot bring wireless devices including cellular phones, computers, cameras, PDA (personal data assistant) into the Embassy. If you have no other alternative, those instruments may be left, once turned off, with the guards at the entrance. Neither the Embassy nor the security company will take any responsibility for the loss of any personal effects left at the entrance.

Offices for Embassy in Madrid and the Consulate in Barcelona are closed on public holidays.
