The Consular sections of the High Commission in Canberra provide a full range of consular services to Canadian citizens residing in or travelling in Australia and the Pacific Islands.

The High Commission in Australia is responsible for Canada's interests in a number of Pacific island countries and territories including the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.

The High Commission deals with the following issues:

  • Services for Canadian companies
  • Defence Relations
  • Assistance to Canadians in the ACT, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia
  • Development Cooperation for the Pacific Islands

The Emergency Operations Centre provides information on some difficult situation Canadian citizens may face while travelling abroad, and also assists in deal with them. The assistance is provided in situations like arrest, abductions, evacuations, natural disasters, medical assistance ect.

While Australians may not need a visa to visit or transit Canada, they still need to:

  • Show an immigration officer that they satisfy all other requirements to enter Canada. For instance, they may need a medical exam before arriving. If they do not meet all the requirements, they may not be allowed to enter.
  • Carry proper travel documents and identification for themselves and any children travelling with them.
