 The main functions of the Embassy and the Consular Section are:

• Protecting in the Receiving State the rights and interests of the State of Chile and its nationals, both individuals and bodies corporate, within the limits permitted by International Law;
• Acting as Notary Public;
• Issuing passports and travel documents to Chilean nationals of its circumscription or passing by;
• Helping and assisting helpless nationals;
• Safeguarding the interests of nationals, both individuals and bodies corporate; safeguard the interests of minors;
• Safeguarding the fair and equal treatment of nationals within the receiving State, if applicable;
• Transmitting judicial and extrajudicial documents or executing letters rogatory in accordance with the laws and regulations of the receiving State.

In case of a lost or stolen Passport the applicant must notify the nearest Chilean Consulate, in order to block the Passport.  Then the applicant must report the loss and request for a pass to leave the country or apply for a new Passport. In order to apply for a new Passport one need to prove his/her identity and present a record of the theft from the police.
