The Danish Embassy in New Delhi is responsible for India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and the Maldives. Embassy’s primary task is to strengthen relations between Denmark and the four countries it is responsible for in areas of trade, investments and political matters. Assisting Danish citizens in India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and the Maldives is likewise Embassy’s responsibility.

The Consular Department is working closely with the Danish Honorary Consulates to assist Danes who are experiencing problems during their stay in India, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Bhutan.

Consular services provided by the Embassy:

  • Registers Danish citizens abroad;
  • Helps with transferring money to return home;
  • Issues Danish passports;
  • Contacts the insurance company in case of an accident, illness or death of a Danish citizen;
  • Issues visas;
  • Contacts a lawyer in case Danish citizen is arrested;
  • Contacts relatives in Denmark;
  • Deals with Danish citizenship matters;
  • Issues marriage certificates;
  • Legalizes documents.

Visitors to the visa section are only allowed – unless personally invited for interviews - on Tuesdays and Thursdays 12.00 – 15.00.

If Danish passport is lost or stolen, it should be immediately reported to the local police. Police notification about the loss/theft of the Danish passport, birth certificate and photo ID will be needed when applying for a new passport at the Embassy.

Indian nationals (and other foreign nationals requiring a visa) travelling to any of the Schengen countries on business, for tourism or other reasons may apply for a Schengen visa for a stay of up to max. 90 days within any six months period. The visa will allow the holder to travel freely across the borders within the Schengen area, if not stated otherwise in the visa.

The following documents are required when applying for a Schengen visa for tourism purposes:

  • Application form.
  • Passport.
  • Application fee.
  • Photograph.
  • Overseas Medical Health Insurance including medical emergency evacuation for at least EURO 30,000 / US$ 50,000.
  • A flight reservation (itinerary), which includes a return flight to and from the Schengen destination within a maximum of 90 travel days.
  • Colour copy of travel document (all pages, including pages without stamps, stickers etc.)
  • Minors require the written, signed consent of their parents as well as their signatures on the application forms along with a copy of the parents’ passports to verify the signatures.
  • A confirmed hotel reservation covering the period of the intended travel.
  • Proof of employment and leave sanction letter on company’s letterhead.
  • Proof of financial means (personal bank statements).

The Embassy is closed on public holidays.
