Danish Embassy in the Hague provides these consular services:

  • Issues and renews passports;
  • Issues temporary passports in case of emergencies;
  • Deals with matters related to Danish citizenship;
  • Legalizes documents;
  • Issues criminal records;
  • Assists Danish citizens in case of an accident;
  • Registers Danish citizens living abroad;
  • Allows Danish citizens abroad to participate in national electoral events;
  • Issues visas.

If Danish passport is lost or stolen, it should be immediatelly reported to local police and a police report must be obtained. Then, Danish citizen can apply for an emergency travel document (also called temporary passport) to return to Denmark. This temporary passport is valid for maximum of 12 months.

A visa is issued for the purpose of a short stay (less than 3 months) in Denmark and other Schengen countries. Employment is not permitted during the stay covered by the visa.  The visa is normally issued within a few days. Foreign citizens who are exempted from basic visa requirements can stay, but not work, in the Schengen region up to 3 months. Citizens of Netherlands do not need a visa to enter Denmark.
