The Danish Consulate provides all the standard consular services, such as assistance to Danish citizens with travel documents, legal issues, and various emergencies.

All Danish Consulates in New Zealand can issue emergency passports. The documentation required is as follows:

  • If the passport has been lost the person must report it to the local Police. The applicant must bring a copy of the Police report.
  • Two copies of the passport application form.
  • Two passport photos. Passport photos taken by a passport photographer in New Zealand will generally meet the requirements.

All Danish Consulates in New Zealand can extend an existing passport for up to 12 months.

The new passport will ordinarily be sent by mail. Before it can be sent the applicant will need to surrender the old passport to the Danish Mission concerned. However, it is possible to specify that one wishes to collect the new passport in Denmark at a Borger Service office or at another Danish Mission abroad, or the nearest Danish Consulate.

If one is in need of emergency assistance outside normal business hours, he/she should contact the nearest Consulate-General first. If the person is unable to establish contact, he/she then has the option of calling the Royal Danish Embassy in Canberra on +61 2 6270 5333. If the call is outside normal business hours in Australia, one will be given the option of being transferred to the 24/7 emergency number at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen. Please note that this is not a ‘free-call’ service.

New Zealand has a visa exemption agreement with Denmark. Holders of a New Zealand passport therefore do not need to obtain a visa to enter Denmark as tourists. They may stay for three months.

Denmark has outsourced the reception of visa applications in this region to VFS Global.  VFS Global accepts visa applications for Denmark and Iceland from their offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra, Perth, Brisbane and Auckland.

All enquiries about lodgement of visa applications and appointments should be made with VFS Global.
