It is the Embassy’s overall task to represent Denmark and the Danish interests in Portugal, as well as to seek cooperation in the many areas where Danish and Portuguese interests are mutual or complementary.  The Embassy’s consular section and the consulates assist Danes in consular and many other matters in Portugal. The embassy's trade department assists Danish exporters.

The Embassy in Lisbon also represents Denmark in Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau and São Tomé and Principe, which were Portuguese colonies until the 1974-75 revolution.

Consular services provided by the Embassy:

  • Issuing Danish emergency passports;
  • Elaboration of declarations, legalisations;
  • Assistance in connection with illness and death, money transfers, imprisonment etc.
  • Issuing visas.

The Danish Foreign Service is not empowered to grant funds in cases where Danish nationals and foreign nationals with a permanent address in Denmark are in need while travelling abroad. This applies whether it concerns requests to borrow money for a ticket back to Denmark, payment of hospital bills, medical evacuation to Denmark, legal costs etc.

The Embassy in Lisbon accepts online application form for Schengen visa. The service is known as VSS, Visa Self Service , where the applicant fills out the visa application form online. This service applies only for Schengen visa.

As EU citizens Portuguese nationals may freely enter Denmark and remain in this country for up to 3 months without an EU residence document (registration certificate). If they expect that their stay in Denmark will last more than 3 months, they have to apply for an EU residence document before the expiry of the three months.

If EU citizens are job-seekers, they may reside in Denmark for up to 6 months without a registration certificate. The periods of 3 and 6 months are calculated from the date of entry.

The Embassy is closed on official holidays.
